Large or prominent ears can be reshaped and brought closer to the head with Ear Surgery (Otoplasty).
|
| Procedure |
An incision is made behind the ear to expose cartilage, which is folded in on itself, or removed, to reshape the ear. The incision is closed with sutures.

| Recovery |
|
Facial surgery may improve a person's self-image by correcting minor imperfections or by rejuvenating a tired appearance resulting from long-term sun exposure or the aging process. To feel your best, you should follow a regimen of proper nutrition, skin care and exercise after the procedure. We encourage patients to adhere to the following guidelines in order to feel good inside and out.
-
Ears are covered with a compression dressing which is removed within a few days. It may be necessary for some patients to wear a light head dressing or headband for several more weeks.
-
When dressings are removed, hair may be washed with a mild baby shampoo and blown dry, as long as the cool setting is used.
-
You are usually up within a day or two and able to resume normal activities within a week.
-
Strenuous exercise should be avoided for four weeks after surgery.
