A Face Lift (Rhytidectomy) will reduce the signs of aging by removing excess facial fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of the face and neck.

Procedure
Incisions are made behind the hairline at the temple, extending into a natural line in front of the ear and behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. Skin is either separated from the fat and muscle or pulled back together as a unit, and excess skin is removed. Then, incisions are closed and tissue is secured with stitches. The head is wrapped in a soft cotton dressing to minimize bruising and swelling. This procedure is performed by Dr. Rohrich at the Tom Landry Center. Recovery

Facial surgery may improve a person's self-image by correcting minor imperfections or by rejuvenating a tired appearance resulting from long-term sun exposure or the aging process. To feel your best, you should follow a regimen of proper nutrition, skin care and exercise after the procedure. We encourage patients to adhere to the following guidelines in order to feel good inside and out.

  • The face is generally bruised and puffy and feels stiff at first, causing features to appear distorted. Moving the head from side to side and bending at the neck should be avoided for the first week

  • Minor discomfort after face lifts is common and can be lessened with prescribed medication.

  • Stitches are removed five to 10 days after surgery. The suture line should be cleansed with hydrogen peroxide or mild soap and water.

  • To reduce swelling, head elevation should continue for two to three weeks following surgery.

  • Cosmetics may be worn five days after surgery. Avoid wearing heavy earrings for several weeks.

  • By the third week, you will look and feel much better. Most patients resume normal activities within two to three weeks.

Facial Rejuvenation:
More then a facelift facts you need to know

Not all facelifts are created equal. The term facelift is, in fact a misnomer. The modern facelift as Dr. Rohrich performs it is a multiple layer and component procedure that is more then a facelift: it is a facial rejuvenation. This means much of the work is done in the deeper structures to lift, reshape and contour your face to make it look more youthful and rested and most importantly not to give you an "operated" look.
