Procedure
The plastic surgeon inserts a breast implant through an incision, either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or in the armpit. The breast and skin tissue are lifted to create a pocket behind the breast or underneath the chest wall (pectoral) muscle. The implant is then inserted in this pocket and centered beneath the nipple.

Recovery

• You may be tired or sore but should be up and about within 24 hours.
• Gauze dressings are removed in a few days, and a surgical bra may be recommended for comfort. Stitches are removed in five to seven days.
• A burning sensation may be felt in the nipples, but subsides as bruising and swelling fades, usually within six weeks of surgery.
• A good support bra should be worn for four to six weeks, during which time strenuous activity should be avoided.
