I'm not sure what I need to have done, I just know I don't like my nose!

How do I know if I am a candidate for rhinoplasty?

Cosmetic Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty) reshapes the nose, which enhances your profile and achieves greater balance with your other facial features. It may alter the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils or change the angle between the nose and the upper lip.

Procedure
The procedure involves separating the skin from the framework of the nose and sculpting it, either through an incision in the vertical tissue separating the nostrils, or from within the nose. Skin is then redraped over the new framework, and a splint is applied to protect the nose. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints may be placed in nostrils to stabilize the internal sutures. This procedure is performed by Dr. Rohrich at the Tom Landry Center. Please visit his website at http://www.drrohrich.com

Recovery

Facial surgery may improve a person's self-image by correcting minor imperfections or by rejuvenating a tired appearance resulting from long-term sun exposure or the aging process. To feel your best, you should follow a regimen of proper nutrition, skin care and exercise after the procedure. We encourage patients to adhere to the following guidelines in order to feel good inside and out.

  • You should keep your head elevated following surgery. Cold compresses can be used to reduce swelling and discomfort.

  • An external nasal splint may be worn for five to seven days to protect your nose during the healing process.

  • During the first 24 hours, the face feels puffy, the nose may ache, and you may have a dull headache.

  • You will be up and about within one to two days and can resume normal activities in about a week.

  • Most swelling and bruising subsides within two weeks, at which time contact lenses may be worn.

  • Hair may be washed beauty-salon style, with the back of the neck resting on the sink.

  • As soon as you feel comfortable, makeup may be worn.

  • Strenuous activity should be avoided for three to four weeks.

  • You should avoid situations in which your nose could be injured for at least eight weeks.

  • Glasses should be taped to the bridge of the nose rather than resting on the nose for four to six weeks following surgery.
